Permanent Commission in Indian Army

You Can become Army Officer by a Permanent Commission in Indian Army. This will also means a career in the Indian Army till you retire. 2 modes by which you can get a Permanent commission are either by joining National Defence Academy or by Joining the Indian Military Academy.

The National Defence Academy, Pune NDA

After you complete your 12th 10+2, you need to go for UPSC NDA entrance examination. Multiple Choice questions in General awareness, reasoning etc will be there in the UPSC NDA. When you clear the NDA exam you need to appear for 5-day Service Selection Board interview. Successful interview will follw your fitness and medicals. On completion of the procedure you will land in Pune where is NDA.

You will be taught and trained at NDA for three years and you will find yourself a much improved person.

NDA provides a graduation degree and apart from this Natinal Defence Academy Pune, NDA has the finest infrastructure for imparting quality professional training. The cadets at NDA get phenomenal opportunities to develop their personality and cultivate new interests.

Indian Military Academy, Dehradun IMA


After your Graduation you can apply for the UPSC Exam CDS (Combined Defence Services) exam.  You are also eleigible to sit in this exam in your final year of Graduation. When you clear the Combined Defence Services, CDS Exam you will be called for SSB at various centers across India. Successful in SSB and Personal Interview you will be called for medical fitness test. You need to be medically fit and join IMA as a Direct Entry if you come in merit.

Apart from this there are other entries for getting into IMA. You can apply after 12th or 10+2 (Tech Entry). There is University Entry Scheme. In this scheme you can apply apply for Army in Pre-Final/Final Year of Engineering.
BE/B Tech in notified streams can also join IMA in the Technical Graduate Course.

The selection procedure is same as for IMA (Direct Entry) accepting that there are no written exams.

The duration of training is 1 ½ years for IMA (DE), five years (one year at IMA and four year at Cadet Training Wings) for 10+2 TES (incl one year after commissioning) and one year for all other entries.

The Indian Military Academy will train the selected candidates to lead from the front. The officers of Indian Army are trained in all aspects of combat and tactics using computers and other modern tools and technologies.

The IMA has excellent facilities for all-round development. You can go for adventure sports like river rafting, para jumping, rock climbing, trekking and mountaineering.
