The Tabo Monastery Complex is the oldest Budhist Monastery in India. Tabo was founded in 996 AD and is 1014 years old.

Tabo is situated an altitude of over 10,000 feet in a village in Lahaul Spiti in Himachal also known as Tabo Village. Distance of Tabo in Spiti is about 700 Kms from Delhi, Distance of Tabo in Lahaul Spiti is around 365 Kms from Shimla
Best time to Visit Tabo Monastery is from June to October

How to Reach Tabo


Tabo By Air: Nearest Airport is Jubbarhatti Airport Shimla

Tabo By Train: Nearest Broad gauge Railway station is Kalka near Chandigarh. Nearest narrow gauge station is Shimla.
Tabo By Road Driving Directions to Tabo Spiti Valley
You need to take Hinduatan – Tibet Road NH 22 from Shimla. Karchham is Half Way Mark on NH 22. From here you need to take the road heading towards Tabo. Distance of Tabo from Karchham is160 Km. The drive from Shimla to Tabo is quite exciting, enchanting, with seren picturesque and panoramic view all around between the giant hills. The drive is not recommended during winters and Monsoons.

If you are in Manali or wish to go via Manali to Tabo in Spiti then you can take an alternative route to Tabo Spiti Valley. From Manali to reach Tabo you need to take the rohtang pass route and you will enter the Spiti Valley via Kunzum from here the pictureaque and breathtaking take La Pass, Losar, Rangrik, and Kaza to reach the Tabo Complex.
