Masroor Rock-cut Temple Kangra

Masrur is one place in Kangra District in Himachal which is not very famous among the tourists who visit Dharamshala, Kangra or Mcleodganj. Masrur is located about 35 km from Dharamshala. From Gaggal you need to take the Nagrota Surian link road to reach Masrur. Masrur has one of the greatest and finest groups of rock cut temples. There are about 15 monolithic groups of rock cut temples in Masrur.

The Masrur Rock Temples are carved richly in the Indo Aryan style. The Rock Temples are the only luxuriously decorated cave temples in Himachal and entire North India. There are three stone images of Ram, Kaxman and Sita on the main Shrine of Masrur Rock Temples. You will also find figure of Lord Shiva in the centre.
It is believed that the ancient temples in Masrur built in Rock-cut style were built during the reign of the Pallava king Narsingha varman I Mahamalla (630-668 A.D.). Though the work was left un finished during his reign, it was finally completed during the reign of that of Krishna I (758-773 A.D.).

How to Reach Masroor Rock Temples Kangra
Masrur is about 50 Kms from Pathankot the nearest broadguage stations. Toy trains from Pathankot are also available till Nagrota Suriyan.

From Dharamshala or kangra town you need to take the Nagrota Surian Road. Masroor is around 35 Kms from Dharamshala and 32 Kms from Kangra.

Himachal is also known as Dev Bhoomi or Land of Gods. People from all over the country and abroad visit various religious places in Himachal Pradesh. There are number of famous temples of Goddess Durga in Kangra District of Himachal Pradesh where millions of people visit to seek blessings of Goddess Durga. Some of these temples include Chitpurni Devi Temple, Jawalaji Temple, Ma Brajeshwari Temple Kangra, Chamunda Devi.
You can plan your trip as per the below suggestions if you wish to visit all these temples. You need to come to the city beautiful Chandigarh which is connected by rail, air and road from all parts of the country.
 
Day 1
Chandigarh - Jawalaji/ Chintpurni (via Rupnagar-Kirtpur-Una-Chintpurni)
From Chandigarh proceed towards Chintpurni Mata Temple via Nangal and Una. After paying obeisance at Chitpurni Devi you can proceed to Jawalaji. Check in at a hotel preferable HPTDC run Hotel Jwalaji, ADDRESS : Hotel Jwalaji, Jwalamukhi (H.P.) - 176031. Tel: (01970) - 222280, 222801  
In the evening visit famous Jawalaji Temple during Arti time which is worth seeing. Dinner and night stay at Hotel jawalaji.
Day 2
Jawalaji –Dharamsala
Next morning after breakfast you can proceed towards Dharamsala via Kangra.  On way visit famous Brijeshwari Devi Temple at Kangra and famous Chamundaji Temple at Chamundaji to pay obeisance to the Goddesses. Lunch at Yatri Niwas, Chamundaji and proceed to Dharamsala. Evening tea, dinner and night stay at Hotel Kunal, Dharamsala.
 
Day 3
After breakfast proceed to Mecleodganj. Visit Tibetan Monastery, Dal Lake and Bhagsu nag Temple. Trekking around Mcleodganj. Lunch, evening tea at Hotel Bhagsu. Dinner and night stay at Hotel Kunal, Dharamsala.
Day 4
Dharamsala -Chandigarh( Via Chintpurni-Una-Kirtpur-Rupnagar)
After breakfast proceed to Chandigarh
